2012 BMW 640i Coupe Details

The technology of the N55 single turbocharged inline-six engine that was introduced by BMW last year is used in the 2012 BMW 640i Coupe.  This coupe has a powerful new single turbocharged engine that works together with its smooth eight-speed automatic transmission to help it achieve an EPA rating of 23 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.  This is one of BMW's highest ratings for highway fuel economy. 

Rear-wheel-drive is standard on the 640i Coupe, but all-wheel-drive is available.  A 3.0-liter DOHC 24-valve turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine powers this vehicle.  This engine generates 315 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque.  This coupe can go from zero to sixty in about 5.4 seconds and has a top speed of 130 mph.

Drivers can select what mode they want to use to drive their 640i Coupe.  They are five selections for driving modes - Eco Pro, Comfort, Comfort+, Sport and Sport+.  Eco Pro mode is used to enhance fuel economy, Comfort mode provides a more comfortable ride, and Sport mode is selected for its greater throttle response.

The 2012 640i Coupe has numerous standard safety features including stability control, traction control, four-wheel antilock brakes, emergency braking assist, electronic brakeforce distribution, a driver and passenger front airbag supplemental restraint system with advanced technology, a driver and passenger whiplash protection system, and an engine immobilizer.  This vehicle also includes BMW's Advanced Safety System that integrates deployment of passive and active safety features and BMW's Assist Safety Plan that has numerous features such as emergency requests, automatic collision notification, and enhanced roadside assistance.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have not yet tested the 2012 640i Coupe.
