2012 BMW X5 Details

The 2012 X5 has five available trims, which carry a variety of the three available engines.  The xDrive35i, xDrive35i Premium, and xDrive35i Sport Activity trims have a.3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine, the xDrive35d trim has a 3.0-liter inline-6 turbodiesel engine, and the xDrive50i trim has a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine.

 

The xDrive35i trim's engine generates 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque.  This engine is coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission and is rated at 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. 

 

The xDrive35d trim's engine produces 265 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque.  This trim has a fuel economy rating of 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.  The xDrive35d comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission.

 

The xDrive50i trim's engine puts out 400 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque.  This engine comes standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and is rated at 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. 

 

2012 BMW X5 Safety

The 2012 X5 model's standard safety features include stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, emergency braking assist, brake drying, a driver and passenger head restraint whiplash protection system, front and rear head airbags, front side airbags and side curtain airbags for the first and second rows, and adaptive headlights.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety determined that the 2012 X5 deserved the highest rating of "Good" in frontal-offset crash tests, side-impact crash tests, and rear crash protection/head restraint tests.  This vehicle earned four out of a possible five stars for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's rollover crash testing.  The government has not yet rated the X5 for frontal or side crashes.
